SAS Documentation Feedback

SAS Documentation is a wonderful resource. I have spent lots of time reading and searching through it, learning new things, refreshing existing knowledge, or trying to work out why something I am doing is not working. Very rarely you might encounter an error, as I did yesterday whilst reading about the changes in the recent SAS 9.4 M8 release. SAS have made it very easy to provide feedback when you encounter such things – up in the top right hand side of the page there’s a Feedback link, as highlight in the screenshot below:

Clicking on that link will open your email client and pre-populate a ready made email with the title of that page in the subject line and a link to the page in the body. All you need to do is provide your comments and hit send.

I was very impressed with the response to the feedback I provided yesterday. Reading my email this morning I already had replies and the documentation had already been updated too. How fast was that!

Keyword Bookmark Search with SAS Support

I had noticed recently that when I searched for SAS documentation on Google I wasn’t finding the SAS 9.4 documentation pages I wanted. I tweeted about it, found others had the same issue, and that SAS are working to address it. In the interim, the answer was simple of course … search using support.sas.com instead. However, I’m impatient and am used to just typing my query in the web browser address bar (e.g. sas 9.4 iomserverappender) and then clicking on the first or second link in the search results (when the search query is unique enough). It’s very fast. Finding and clicking a bookmark, waiting for the page to load, locating the search field on the page, typing in the query, clicking the submit button, waiting for the search results page to load, and clicking on the right link …. well that’s quite a bit more work! ;) [#FirstWorldProblems]

So, I’ve switched to using another method where I can keep typing my SAS 9.4 documentation search in the browser address bar AND use support.sas.com at the same time. It might even work out better than before.

In Chrome/Chromium you can add search engines with keywords (right click over the address bar and select Edit search engines… from the context menu):

Updated SAS Admin Docs (inc Portal Promotion)

I noticed that several of the SAS® platform administration documents have been updated recently following the release of the 4.3 versions of SAS Enterprise Guide and the various mid-tier web apps (SAS Information Delivery Portal, SAS Web Report Studio, SAS BI Dashboard etc.). The updated documents include:
