Installing SAS Viya 4 (2021.1.2) Locally

I have been wanting to get SAS® Viya 4 running locally on our lab hardware to further investigate the REST APIs, and having just finished the installation, I thought I’d jot down a few notes.

SAS Viya 4 has initially been released for the main cloud providers: Microsoft Azure (AKS) first, and now Amazon (EKS) and Google (GKE) too. I understand that RedHat OpenShift support will be coming later this year.

SAS Management Console on HiDPI Windows 10 Revisited

It has been a few years since I posted SAS Management Console on HiDPI Windows 10, and the Windows 10 HiDPI options have changed a little since then, so I wanted to post an update.

Metacoda Plug-ins Tip: View SAS Management Console Log File

In supporting Metacoda Plug-ins, one of the most useful things for us to review is the SAS Management Console log file SASMCErrorLog.txt. If you have ever had to look at this file yourself, or ask someone to email you a copy, then you would know it can be tricky to explain where to find it. So, to make it easier to access, and remove this friction, we have added a small enhancement to the recently released Metacoda Plug-ins 6.1 R6.

After installing Metacoda Plug-ins 6.1 R6, if you look in the SAS Management Console Tools menu you will see a new View SAS Management Console Log File... action. It opens the SAS Management Console log file SASMCErrorLog.txt by launching a standard text editor.

When SAS Management Console Fails to Start

It is very rare, but occasionally, such as after an update, SAS® Management Console may fail to start. It is so rare for me that next time it happens I have usually forgotten what I did last time to fix it – hence this post.

Whenever I have seen SAS Management Console not starting correctly, especially when not showing the splash screen, it has usually been a problem with the SAS Private Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or the SAS Versioned JAR Repository (VJR) cache. Metacoda Plug-ins Tip: Locate a Metadata Object By Id

This tip was prompted by a question from a Metacoda customer who, having seen a SAS® metadata object id in a log file (e.g. A53GCFFH.AP00001D), wanted to quickly identify what SAS metadata object that id referred to. As a Metacoda Plug-ins user they have access to the Metacoda Metadata Explorer plug-in which supports simple text based metadata searches as well as special-mode SAS XMLSELECT queries. These latter types of queries allow us to pinpoint the single object using this query:
